About bibliometric studies on tourism
Main Article Content
Abstract
Tourism is an in-process and growing discipline, which is related to different fields, such as economy, business, environment, anthropology, psychology, geography, among others. This article reviews research works, authors and their ideas, definitions, reflections and titles of bibliometric studies (BS) on tourism and its subsectors, in order to evaluate the progression and projection of tourism. It aims to present BS and promote their development. To this end, an extensive bibliography is collected and presented for the reader to review it. It is concluded that BS are a need and opportunity for tourism; hence, they should be developed more assiduously at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as by experienced researchers, considering the rigidity in the process and the limitations in the analysis. It is suggested to examine the results to identify the trends and gaps with practical, theoretical and conceptual implications.
